Area History

The Cotswolds has a remarkable history that dates back to prehistoric times. It is renowned for its picturesque villages, rolling hills, and intriguingly historical landmarks. The area's heyday was during the wool trade in the 14th century, which led to the construction of many of the beautiful stone buildings and churches that we see today, created from the local Cotswold stone.

Villages like Burford, often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds,' exude charm with their medieval architecture and quaint streets. The town's fascinating past, from its bustling sheep markets to its role in the wool industry, is a testament to its importance in local history.

Alongside Burford, destinations such as Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water are steeped in history as well, showcasing stunning cottages and breathtaking scenery that have inspired artists, writers, and visitors alike.

Each town and village holds stories waiting to be shared. We provide captivating Cotswolds day trips for all. With HareFoot Cotswold Tours, you'll not only see the beauty of the Cotswolds but also delve into its unique history, which makes this region such a treasure trove of knowledge and heritage.
